Officers who secured a lengthy custodial sentence as a result of an investigation into a man who had committed sex offences against children have been commended for the high quality of their work.

Officers including Detective Sergeant Rob Hayes, Detective Sergeant Catherine Robertson and Police Constable Claire Ritchie received Chief Constable's commendations for their efforts which resulted in a 19-year custodial sentence for the dangerous offender.

Detective Sergeant Mike Wallace put the officers forward for the commendation. He said: "This was a challenging and complex investigation which required excellent teamwork from all of those involved at all stages of the investigation.

"The officers worked with great thoroughness in compiling the evidence which would eventually lead to a significant prison sentence for a man who had committed despicable offences against extremely young victims.

"The officers carried out their work with professionalism which can only help improve public confidence that when such matters are reported, regardless of when they took place, they will be treated sensitively but investigated thoroughly."
