A team of detectives and their police staff support have been commended by the Chief Constable for their work in investigating the death of a 13-month old boy.

 

The child died on 7 January 2020 after suffering a head injury whilst in the care of his prospective adoptive parent.

 

The team undertook a highly sensitive, emotive and challenging investigation spanning numerous months and which relied upon specialist medical evidence.

 

The officers and staff involved carried out a thorough investigation which involved numerous strategies and was ultimately to result in a murder conviction.

The officers and staff were nominated by Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Pattinson.

 

He said: "This was a complex investigation with significant challenges to overcome from the outset.

 

"Despite this, the officers and staff involved in the investigation carried out their work with great professionalism and tenacity combined with a sensitive approach.

 

"As a result, the family of the child were able to see justice, with a life sentence handed down at Crown Court."
