Three officers who responded to a fatal stabbing in Carlisle city centre have been commended for their actions at the scene of the attack.

 

PC Luke Russell, PC Dan Proud and PC Anthony Cropley responded to a stabbing at Carlisle's Carlyle Court on 18 September 2021.

 

The three officers found the victim heavily bleeding after being stabbed multiple times and immediately began to perform CPR whilst working jointly to in an effort to resuscitate the injured man.

 

Upon arrival of paramedics, the officers were able to handover care for the severely injured man before turning their own priority to securing the scene and identifying potential witnesses amongst the members of the public remaining on scene.

 

Whilst the injured man would sadly succumb to his injuries the officers are commended for the professional and sensitive way they were able to carry out their actions at the scene.

 

The officers were put forward for a commendation by Inspector Rachel Carruthers.

 

She said: "All three officers worked with great tenacity, in difficult circumstances, whilst displaying sensitivity towards the victim's family and friends.

 

"The officers should be extremely proud of their actions that evening. Whilst the outcome was tragic, their efforts to preserve life and protect the wider public was exceptional and they are a credit to the Constabulary."
