Peter Barry

A man from Barrow has been jailed for six years for drug supply offences involving heroin and cocaine.

Peter Barry, 57, of Rodney Street, Barrow was sentenced yesterday (28 January) for two counts of possession with intent to supply drugs and two counts of possession of a Class A drug – namely heroin and cocaine.

He was also sentenced for failing to appear at court after he failed to attend a court hearing on 28 November.

The court heard how on 2 October 2025, officers were carrying out an operation to target drugs offending in Barrow.

Whilst in the area of Schneider road, officers witnessed Barry - who had been identified by intelligence as someone actively involved in the supply of Class A drugs in the area -  on a push bike.

Officers detained him for a drug search, and after initially resisting, and seized numerous wraps of brown powder and white powder – later identified as heroin and cocaine. At this point he was arrested for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

The investigation and seizure forms part of Operation Alliance - our wider ongoing response to protect the county against serious and organised crime.

A spokesperson from Westmorland and Furness’ Community and Serious Organised Crime (CSOC) team said: “This sentencing is a result of excellent proactive policing.

“This is another example of our determination to identify and apprehend those who sell drugs within our communities.

“Cumbria Police will continue to target those involved in drug supply.”
