A man has today (21 March) appeared in court charged with rape.
Peter Bennett, 54, of Croft Road, Brampton - was charged with rape and sexual assault by penetration following an incident in Brampton in the early hours on 20 March.
He appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded until his next court appearance – at Carlisle Crown Court – on 20 April 2026.
The victim – a 16-year-old girl – is being supported by specialist officers at this time.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about this incident who has yet to come forward to do so.
The incident is believed to have occurred at around 1am on 20 March and officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Sawmill Lane and Stanley Road at this time who may be able to assist.
