ERS Gold Award

Cumbria Constabulary has once again been recognised for their support of the armed forces community.

The force has now been awarded the Gold Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

The award follows work conducted by the Constabulary since it signed the Armed Forces Covenant in April 2023.

The covenant recognises the value of serving personnel, veterans, Reserve Forces and military families and promises to ensure those that serve or have served, and their families, will be treated fairly.

Written into law, the covenant states that Armed Forces personnel, veterans or their families will not be disadvantaged by their military life.

Temporary Chief Constable Darren Martland, Cumbria Constabulary, said: “It is fantastic news to receive this gold award which recognises our ongoing commitment to supporting former, and serving, services personnel.

“The sacrifices that those in the Armed Forces, and their families, have made and continue to make is highly commendable.

“We will continue to do all we can to ensure the armed forces community are treated with fairness and respect in society and in the workplace.”

Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, David Allen, said: “I am delighted to see Cumbria Constabulary recognised for their commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.

“For the veterans who serve and who are ready to put their lives at risk to defend our country, it is only right that we support them on their return to civilian life.

“Well done to Cumbria Constabulary – this award is well deserved, and as importantly, it is the right thing to do.”
