
Two men have today (Feb 19) been jailed at Carlisle Crown Court for a robbery.
Shane Millea, 51, of Winscale Way, Carlisle was sentenced to six years three months for robbery.
Roger Murphy, 52, Winscale Way, Carlisle was sentenced to eight years one month for robbery and possession of a controlled drug Class B – Cannabis.
Both received restraining orders granted for life.
Both pleaded guilty to the offences following a one-day trial earlier this month.
The court heard that on 16 May last year, Millea and Murphy attended the victims address.
Millea knocked on the front door of the property to get the victims attention knowing she would open to him, Murphy immediately grabbed the victim by the neck pushing her into the property. Murphy made threats towards the victim punching and pulling her hair.
Whilst distracted the victim managed to get free from the property and Murphy and Millea left the address.
The victim returned to the address noticing £105 was missing from her purse.
Officers located Millea and Murphy at an address on Fairfield Gardens where they were arrested, a bag of Cannabis was located on the floor between both men.
CCTV enquiries in the area captured Millea and Murphy.
Speaking on the case Detective Constable Emma Barker said “Millea and Murphy subjected the victim to a sustained assault before taking money from her purse.
“The victim suffered bruising and cuts following the incident.
“Offences of this nature are unacceptable.
“This sentence reflects the seriousness taken by the courts and that we will do everything we can to bring criminals to justice.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the witnesses that came forward following our press appeal.”
