The following has been issued on behalf of the family.
The family of 17-year-old boy who died following an incident at High Dam Tarn on 7 April have paid tribute to his life.
In tribute to Absi Ahmed, his family said “Absi was a bright, kind, funny young man with his whole future ahead of him. He was a loyal friend, a loving son, and someone who brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. His loss has shaken our entire community.”
The family would like to take this opportunity to highlight the devastating consequences of entering open water, water safety advice can be found here - Water safety | Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service
If you get into difficulty in water
Float to Live:
- Tilt your head back, submerging your ears
- Relax and control your breathing
- Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
- Your legs may sink – that's okay, everyone floats differently
- Practise floating at a supervised location like a swimming pool
