Police can confirm five arrests have now been made in connection with an assault on a man in Carlisle in the early hours of yesterday – as investigating officers appeal for witnesses.
Officers were made aware at 3.24am on Sunday March 29 that a man, in his thirties, had sustained a number of suspected stab wounds at an address in Edward Street.
He was taken to hospital and subsequently discharged following treatment.
Investigations have led to five people being arrested.
They are:
- Two men, one in his twenties and one in his forties, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in custody today.
- Two women, one in her forties and one in her thirties, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They remain in custody today.
- A man, in his twenties, arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. He was bailed pending further enquiries.
Officers are appealing for anyone to contact them who saw anything suspicious in the area of Edward Street, Sybil Street and Lindisfarne Street on the night on Saturday March 28 or the early hours of Sunday March 29.
They are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a grey Seat Arona, registration PY23 OES, in and around these areas or the London Road area at these times.
A police operation was carried out yesterday that led to the arrests.
The operation involved arrest inquiries being carried out a number of addresses in the city. As a result, residents may have noticed a larger-than-usual police presence.
Armed police were deployed as a precaution due to the nature of the assault.
