A Workington man was sentenced to 31 months in prison today (8 Feb) after carrying out a knife attack in the street.
Roland Tallantire, 41, of Grasmere Avenue, Workington, admitted wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article and was sentenced today at Carlisle Crown Court.
The court heard how on 10 November 2023, Tallantire had been seen fighting on West View Walk and later near St Mary’s Church, with another man.
Tallantire was then heard to tell the other man “I’ll stab you”.
He then entered a family member’s home, grabbed a knife and went back onto the street.
He found the man had had been fighting earlier and set about him with the knife, slashing at his head and face with the blade.
The victim of the knife attack suffered several deep cuts to his head and face in the attack.
Tallantire was arrested but told officers he had been stabbed first. However, he had no such injuries.
Tallantire refused to answer questions in his police interview but admitted the offence at court.
Detective Constable Ben Wright said: “Any attack involving a knife has the potential to end in tragedy.
“Whilst the victim of the knife attack suffered serious injuries, both men are fortunate that this wild and frenzied attack did not result in loss of life or more serious and life-altering injuries.
“There is no justification for taking a knife onto the street and the police and courts take such an act extremely seriously.”
