An operation targeting road safety was held yesterday (Sept 1) in Workington.
Officers from the Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team alongside Operational Support set up in two locations in Workington to check for speeding vehicle and carry out vehicle safety checks.
A total of 50 vehicles were stopped during the operation, four traffic offence reports (TORs), five drug wipes conducted and five breath tests.
Officers also arrested a 25-year-old man from Workington on Salterbeck Road on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. He has been released under investigation.
Sergeant Neil McKinnell from the Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team said “Road safety is a priority for our communities, and this operation is part of our ongoing efforts to target those putting others at risk on our roads.
“Off road bikes and e-scooters are not toys and can cause serious harm, we would encourage anyone using these to ensure they meet legal requirement and have protective safety equipment.
“Targeting drink and drug drivers and anti-social driving is not just for officers, but something we can all be active about reporting dangerous drivers putting the lives of road users at risk."
“If you have any concerns about someone committing an offence please report it to us.”
