Detectives have charged a man with multiple burglaries in South Cumbria.

Craig Butterworth, 53, of Fern Isle Close, Rochdale is charged with three counts of burglary dwelling and theft and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.

He appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates Court today (22 December) and is due to appear before Preston Crown court on 19 January 2026

Detective Inspector Andy Lamb, Westmorland & Furness CID, said: “ We understand how distressing burglary can be for victims, and our officers are committed to keeping communities safe.

“Dedicated teams are actively targeting those responsible for burglary and theft in Cumbria.

“If you spot anything suspicious, please report it to us. Your information could help us prevent future crime and protect homes.”

The incidents are being investigated under Operation Themis – Cumbria Constabulary’s response to and focus on burglaries.
