A man has been charged with possession with intent to supply Class B drugs following a proactive stop by officers on the M6 in Cumbria yesterday (12 Feb).

Reece Balfour, 30, of Turnberry Avenue, Dundee was stopped by a Cumbria Police Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officer whilst driving a van, travelling northbound on the M6 between junctions 41 and 42 at around 1.20pm.

A large quantity of what was suspected to be cannabis was recovered from the vehicle – 40 packages with an estimated street value of around £200,000.

Balfour was arrested and subsequently charged with possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and driving without insurance.

He was remanded to appear at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today (13 Feb).
