A man from Aberdeen has been given a six-year prison sentence after a vehicle he was driving was stopped by Cumbria Police.

Jamie Blyth, aged 39, of Falkland Crescent, Aberdeen was sentenced on Friday (27 March) for:

  • Possession with intent to supply Class A drugs – Heroin
  • Two counts of possession of an offensive weapon
  • One count of possession of a bladed article in a public place

On 19 February 2026 at 5:20pm, officers stopped a vehicle in the Penrith area.

Blyth was the sole occupant of the vehicle and told officers he was travelling from Dundee to Wigan to look at a puppy. Suspecting the journey may have involved drugs, officers decided to search the vehicle, and Blyth told them there was “just drugs” behind the passenger seat.

Upon searching, they located a bag containing two blocks of Class A drugs, each weighting 1kg and two further blocks weighing 0.5kg each.

Officers also located a knife in Blyth’s coat pocket and two bats in the boot.

Blyth - evidence

The offences were investigated under Operation Alliance - our wider ongoing response to protect the county against serious and organised crime.

A spokesperson from Westmorland and Furness’s Community and Serious Organised Crime (CSOC) team, who investigated the case, said: “This was a great proactive stop by our Roads Policing officers which has undoubtedly led to harmful drugs being removed from the streets.

“We welcome the prison sentence handed to Blyth on Friday – it shows how seriously we, and the courts, take this type of offending.

“Drug dealing is not a victimless crime, and we will continue to target those who distribute them and fuel violence, exploitation an addiction.”

Anyone with information on drug dealing in their community can report to police on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously alternatively on 0800 555 111.
