A man from Carlisle was yesterday (July 29) jailed at Newcastle Crown Court for 20 sex offences.
Carl Van Wyk, 55, of Carlisle was sentenced to 24 years.
He was found guilty of the offences at Newcastle Crown Court on 19 June 2025 following a trial.
The offences took place between 2015 and 2022. They include offences of rape, sexual assault and making indecent images.
Detective Constable Rebecca Lynch from Cumberland CID said “Van Wyk is a dangerous offender and subjected his victims to horrific abuse over a long period of time.
“We would like to thank the victims for their bravery throughout this investigation as well as those that assisted us in reaching the verdict.
“We hope this sentencing provides reassurance to victims that action will be taken against dangerous offenders to bring them to justice.
“If you are a victim of sexual offences, don’t suffer in silence, please tell someone and report this to police so that we can investigate.
“Support is also available and is tailored to an individual’s circumstances and work closely with trusted partner agencies.”
