A man has been jailed for four years eight months for a residential burglary of a Carlisle home and commercial burglary at a golf club.
Craig Weaver, 46, of Pennine Gardens, Carlisle was sentenced today (Dec 2) at Carlisle Crown Court.
The court heard in the morning of 3 October this year Weaver was located in a residential property after the occupant heard movement downstairs.
Weaver was found rummaging through the occupants’ bags before he was pushed out the address by the occupant. Weaver had taken a number of items including a passport, card holder, and laptop.
Within an hour, whilst officers were conducting enquiries for the residential burglary, another report was made to police reporting a male, later identified as Weaver, breaking into a golf club. He caused a substantial amount of damage within the golf club. Weaver was attempting to open the shutter to the bar when he was disturbed by a member of public. Weaver threatened them with violence.
Upon Weaver’s arrest he was searched, officers located the items taken from the residential burglary on his person.
Speaking after the case Detective Constable Jorgia Carruthers from Cumberland CID said
“Today’s sentence reflects the seriousness of these offences. Targeting both a home and a business within an hour demonstrates a concerning level of intent which posed a significant risk to the public.
"Being burgled can be incredibly traumatic. Weaver actions have had a substantial impact on the victims involved in this case. We are grateful for their cooperation throughout the investigation.
"We do not tolerate offences of this nature and encourage victims of burglary to report it to police so we can continue to pursue dangerous offenders, like we have in today’s case.
"We remain committed to working with communities to bring offenders to justice.”
