A man who carried out an attack with a Stanley knife has been sent to prison today (21 July).
Daniel Roberts, 35, of Derwent Street, Workington, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court after he admitted charges of grievous bodily harm with intent, threatening with a bladed article in a public place and criminal damage.
The court heard how, on the morning of 1 April 2025, Roberts walked into an address in Windsor Road in Workington of a man who was known to him.
Roberts was armed with a Stanley knife and attacked the man, slashing him with the blade across the face.
The victim of this attack and another man then confronted Roberts in the street and a fight ensued, with Roberts seen waving the Stanley knife around.
The fight ended when police arrived at the scene. Roberts attempted to flee on a bike but was swiftly pinned down by officers and arrested.
The court was told how the victim of the knife attack suffered a significant facial injury which required 14 stitches to his cheek.
In his police interview, Roberts refused to answer questions but made admissions at court and was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.
He also admitted criminal damage after smashing a woman’s phone in an earlier incident on the same day.
Detective Constable Alex Chalker said: "Roberts carried out a vicious assault on a man in his own home, leaving him with permanent facial scaring.
“Any attack with a knife has the potential to end in the loss of life and is a matter taken extremely seriously by the police and the courts.
“In this instance Roberts has admitted his guilt at court and been given a significant sentence of imprisonment.
“I would also like to recognise the arresting officers who attended a dangerous scene and swiftly brought Roberts to the ground at a time when they had no way of knowing whether he continued to be armed with a knife.”
