A man was jailed yesterday (Monday 20 October) for stalking and breaching a Stalking Protection Order.

Paul Murray, 27, from Workington was sentenced to nine months.

The court heard that a Stalking Protection Order was enforced on 25 June against Murray to protect the victim.

A Stalking Protection Order prohibits the person from doing certain things such as contact the victim, which is breached is a criminal offence.

At the start of July, Murray contacted the victim on multiple occasions by phone calls and social media.

The contact was sometimes up to 70 times a day.

Murray made multiple threats towards the victim in the lead up to his arrest on 18 July causing the victim fear.

Speaking on the case PC Rachael Leach from Cumberland Safeguarding team said “Murray continued to contact the victim despite being subject to a Stalking Protection Order.

“His behaviour was prolific with him contacting the victim multiple times a day, asking people to contact them on his behalf and making threats towards the victim.

“Offences of this nature have like in this case have a massive impact on the victim, we would encourage anyone victim of offences of this nature to report it to us.”
