A man has today (3 September) been sentenced at Preston Crown Court following an investigation into a fatal collision which resulted in the death of a man.
Jayden Cammock, 21, of Westminster Avenue, Walney pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
The court heard that police were called to the report of a collision on Friday 6 June 2025 on A5087 Coast Road near Priors Lea, Rampside.
The collision involved Cammock’s Audi S4 and a Volkswagen UP.
A forensic collision investigation was carried out which found both vehicles were travelling north on the A5087 when Cammock carried out an overtaking manoeuvre on several vehicles before colliding with the Volkswagen UP, which had been turning right into a parking area.
Timothy Jolley, 19, a passenger in the Volkswagen, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
There was a passenger in Cammock’s vehicle who suffered minor injuries.
Cammock was sentenced to four years in prison and given a seven-year driving disqualification.
Detective Constable Claire Whatman from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:
"This tragic case shows how reckless manoeuvres can have devastating consequences. The defendant's inappropriate speed and failure to properly assess the road and traffic conditions ahead greatly reduced his ability to react and avoid the collision.
"Our thoughts remain with Tim’s family and friends, as well as everyone else affected by this collision. We hope that this case reminds drivers of the importance of not taking dangerous risks."
