Investigations remain ongoing into a suspected stabbing which occurred in Barrow earlier today (16 December).

Police were contacted shortly after 3pm with a report that a man, aged in his 30s, had suffered serious injuries following an incident outside a house on Cambridge Street.

The victim is believed to have made his way to the vicinity of the Aldi store on Risedale Road. He was subsequently airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital.

He is in a stable condition and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 27-year-old man, from Barrow, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody.

Chief Superintendent Matt Kennerley, Cumbria Constabulary, said: “Our investigation into this incident remains ongoing as we seek to establish the full circumstances.

“We appreciate news of incidents such as this may cause concern for local residents, however we can reassure them that this is believed to be an isolated incident. There is no wider risk to the public and we are not looking for any other individual at this time.

“We ask that people refrain from speculating online to avoid any misinformation circulating.

“There will be an increased policing presence in the area this evening to provide further reassurance.”

Cumbria Police were contacted shortly after 3pm today (16 Dec) reporting a man in his 30s having suffered a suspected stab injury.

 

Emergency services have attended and a 27-year-old man was arrested at approximately 3.30pm.

 

The incident is believed to have occurred in Cambridge Street. However, the victim is believed to have made his way to the vicinity of the nearby Aldi where he was being treated. He has since been taken to hospital by air ambulance.

 

People are asked to avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work.
