A Maryport man has today (29 May) been jailed for committing burglary.

Paul McCracken, 43, of Pecklewell Terrace, Maryport was sentenced to two years and eight months for committing burglary and vehicle interference.

The court heard that on the morning of 26 April 2026, police received a report of a burglary in the Maryport area.

Officers attended and viewed CCTV footage showing a man entering the property in the early hours while the owners were asleep upstairs.

McCracken stole a significant amount of high-value jewellery from the property, some of which was later recovered from his address.

He appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this morning (29 May) where he admitted the offence.

Detective constable Drimmie said:

“Burglary is an invasive crime, particularly when it takes place while residents are at home.

Through swift police work and the use of CCTV, we were able to identify McCracken and recover a significant quantity of stolen property.

“The investigation forms part of Operation Themis – Cumbria Constabulary’s response to and focus on burglaries.
