Two men who attempted to steal an ATM from a supermarket on Tuesday (15 Sept) were arrested, charged, brought before the courts and entered guilty pleas in less than 36 hours.
The raid was carried out by two men at Morrisons in Kingstown Road in Carlisle shortly after 6.30am on Tuesday.
After failing to steal the ATM, the men drove away but were subsequently stopped in the same lime green flatbed used in their attempt.
The men were arrested, charged and appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (16 Sept).

Dean Smith, 33, also of no fixed address, admitted burglary with intent to steal and causing criminal damage, drink driving and dangerous driving.

The men were remanded in custody for sentencing at Carlisle Crown Court on 14 October 2026.
Detective Inspector Lee Brumpton said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the public who came forward with vital information which assisted in the response to the incident.
“The public response significantly aided our officers, resulting in swift arrests and those responsible admitting to all offences within 36 hours of the offences being committed.”
