The Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing team have secured additional conditions against a man to further prevent his criminal behaviour.

Sean McAvoy, 49, of no fixed abode attended court yesterday (March 6) for shoplifting offences.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team during his court appearance applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order variation application which was accepted.

McAvoy’s original conditions are as follows:

  • Not to enter any property or premises that are part of the Whitehaven and Maryport Shopwatch & Schemelink or who display the Shopwatch & Schemelink sign
  • Not to enter LIDL, Maryport
  • Not to enter Grisedale Stores, Senhouse Street, Workington
  • Not to enter P & D Newsagents, Workington
  • Not to enter ASDA, Whitehaven

The additional ones that were agreed at court are as follows:

  • Not to enter any property or premises that are part of the Workington Schemelink or who display the schemelink sign.
  • Not to enter Costcutter, Station Road, Workington
  • Not to enter an address on Harcourt Street, Workington

Th Criminal Behaviour Order was also extended for two years, to 2027.

The punishment for breaking the terms of a CBO can be up to five years in prison.

Anyone who witnesses Sean McAvoy breaching the terms of his CBO should contact the police.

This work forms part of Operation Enhance.

Operation Enhance is funded after Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner secured an additional £1m of extra funding from the Government’s Hotspot Response Fund to target anti-social behaviour (ASB) and serious violence in hotspot areas across the county.

There are increased patrols in Workington, Whitehaven and Maryport area as part of Operation Enhance.
