Operation Colossus returned to Barrow again last week (Friday 17 October) which saw more drivers stopped and spoken to regarding their vehicles and driving manner.
130 cars were stopped and, thankfully, most drivers were compliant.
However, officers did size three vehicles and issue 54 Traffic Offence Reports for offences including no MOT and no valid insurance.
Officers also arrested one man in his 30s who tested positive for cannabis after a roadside drug test.
Sergeant Paul Holmes, Barrow Neighbourhood Policing team said: “The latest instalment of Op Colossus saw our officers carry out a road safety Checkpoint on Ironworks Road as part of our ongoing effort to keep Barrow’s roads safe and crime-free.
“We know you consistently highlight road safety as one of your main areas of concerns in our Police and Communities Together (PACT) surveys, so it’s important we carry out operations like this, to address community concerns.
“Our message is simple: keep your vehicle legal, insured, and roadworthy. It keeps you, passengers, other road users and everyone else safe.
“I’d like to say a big thank-you to all the responsible drivers we met during the operation. Your cooperation helps us make Barrow’s roads safer for all.”

Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, David Allen, said: “The A590 is one of our main roads here in Cumbria with thousands of commuters using it every day.
“Driving dangerously on and around the A590 not only places the driver’s life at risk but also risks the lives of other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians that are following the law.
“I’m pleased to see the Police continuing to tackle anti-social and dangerous driving across the county as part of Operation Colossus.
