A three-month long Cumbria-wide operation promoting road safety whilst targeting anti-social behaviour – including the anti-social use of vehicles - has concluded.

The 15-week operation alongside the Constabulary’s long-running ASB and serious violence operation – Operation Enhance – focused on road safety in anti-social behaviour hotspots around the county.

It began on 4 August 2025 and resulted in 1,530 vehicles being stopped and 22 arrests being made – the majority for drug driving.

In addition, 27 stop searches were conducted and 206 tickets issued for matters including speeding, illegal tyres, no insurance, no driving license and use of a mobile phone whilst driving.

Officers also seized 29 vehicles including six e-bikes/scooters.

Inspector Alex Johnson of Cumbria Police’s Operational Support Unit said: “Operation Colossus has seen officers targeting hotspot areas where the anti-social use of vehicles contributes significant harm to local communities.

“By working side-by-side with local neighbourhood officers and listening to the concerns of local people, we have been able to take a targeted approach to anti-social behaviour, whilst making the roads safer for all user across the county.

“Whilst the operation has now concluded, Cumbria Constabulary’s commitment to road safety will continue through Operation Limit – a countywide operation targeting dangerous drivers throughout December and into the New Year, which will utilise and build on the methods and targeting used in Operation Colossus to help keep the public safe on our roads."

Last year’s Operation limit saw more than 3,000 drivers stopped and more than 200 arrests for drink and drug driving.
