Operation Spotlight update:
In the first few hours of Operation Spotlight – a national op targeting the Fatal Four of driver behaviour – we have made arrests.
Officers attended a road traffic collision on the M6 north of junction 44 yesterday (1 July).
The collision occurred at around 1.15pm and one of the drivers involved was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, after failing a roadside test.
The driver, aged in his 30s and from the Liverpool area, was released under investigation whilst officers carry out further enquiries.
Officers also arrested a 21-year-old driver after stopping a car yesterday (1 July) at around 12.10pm on the A66 near Brough.
The driver was arrested after refusing to provide a roadside drugs wipe and has been charged with failing to co-operate with a preliminary test.
He was bailed to attend Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on 4 August 2025.
Operation Spotlight – our dedicated road safety op aimed at the Fatal Four – continues throughout July.
