Operation Spotlight update:


Our officers are continuing to target dangerous driving as part of Operation Spotlight - particularly those who think they can get behind the wheel whilst unfit through driving.


Police were called at 12.38pm on Sunday reporting a car being driven erratically on the M6 at Burton-in Kendal.

Officers traced the car to Carlisle and stopped the vehicle at around 1.24pm and the driver – a 35-year-old man from the Glasgow area – was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

He was released under investigation to allow time for further tests to be carried out.


Police were called at around 6pm on Sunday, reporting a suspected drink-driver in Carlisle.

Officers stopped a van at 6.12pm and the driver – a 21-year-old of no fixed address – was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

He was released under investigation to allow time for further tests to be carried out.


Officers engaged with a man who had been seen driving a vehicle heading towards Cumwhinton on Sunday morning at around 9am.

The driver - a 37-year-old man from Scotland - subsequently failed a drugs wipe and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

He was released under investigation to allow time for further tests to be carried out.
