Police have arrested a man following an incident in Carlisle in the early hours of the morning.
The man, in his forties, is in custody in connection with an assault at an address in Edward Street.
Officers were made aware at 3.24am that a man, in his thirties, had sustained a number of suspected stab wounds.
He was taken to hospital and subsequently discharged, with his injuries not proving life-threatening.
Investigations have been underway and a police operation was carried out this afternoon and evening that led to the arrest.
The operation involved arrest inquiries being carried out a number of addresses in the city. As a result, residents may have noticed a larger-than-usual police presence in Carlisle today.
Armed police were deployed as a precaution due to the nature of the assault.
