Police are urging residents in Grange to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity following recent reports of burglaries in the area.
Detectives are currently investigating four incidents, which have been reported in the last three days, where suspects have forced entry into properties. It is not currently known what, if anything, was taken.
Officers would like to remind residents to ensure their windows and doors are locked when houses are not occupied, and consider the use of lights on timers or sensor lights. Those with CCTV or video doorbells should ensure they are working correctly and are signed up to Connect Cumbria.
Residents who have witnessed anything suspicious or those who have CCTV or door cameras that have captured any suspicious activity, are asked to report this to police.
Anyone with any information relating to reports of burglaries in the area should contact 101 or report online via www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it.
You can also contact independent charity Crimestoppers totally anonymously on 0800 555 111.
What can you do to protect your home?
Some simple, basic tips include:
- Locking doors and windows before you go out and ensure that your house and keys are secure.
- Remove keys from locks and keep them out of reach, not on a hall table, hiding any vehicle keys in a secure place.
- Ensure side gates and sheds are locked with a good quality lock.
- Keep cash and valuables locked away safe or well hidden.
- Consider increasing your security with good quality locks, CCTV and chains.
- In the evening, shut the curtains and leave lights on where possible
- If you’re out all day, then it’s advisable to use a timer device to automatically turn lights and a radio on at night
- Set your burglar alarm
- Make sure any side gates are locked
The reports are being investigated under Operation Themis – Cumbria Police’s ongoing response to and focus on burglaries.
