A west Cumbrian sex offender has been jailed after he was found to have breached the terms of a sexual harm prevention order.
Steven Banner, aged 48, of The Island, Anthorn, was sentenced at North Cumbria Magistrates’ Court today (19 November).
Banner is behind bars for offending which came to light yesterday (18 November) during a home visit by officers from Cumbria Police’s MOSOVO (Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders) team.
Officers located digital storage devices within Banner’s bedroom – devices he was prohibited from possessing as per the terms of the sexual harm prevention order he was subject of.
Banner was convicted of two breaches of his order and was sentenced to 46 weeks imprisonment.
Detective Constable Kerry Moynan, of the Cumberland MOSOVO team, said: “Banner was fully aware of the terms of his sexual harm prevention order and yet chose to defy the conditions by possessing digital storage devices which he did not declare when challenged by officers.
“With the assistance of one of our digital evidence search dogs, we found a storage hard drive within a bedroom drawer.
“MOSOVO officers play a vital role in safeguarding communities by rigorously managing registered sex offenders, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
“This outcome, secured within a day of his offending being uncovered, reinforces the seriousness of complying with court-imposed restrictions designed to protect the public.”
