South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and Trading Standards conducted a test purchase operation at stores in Kendal, Windermere and Ulverston last night (14 May) in efforts to prevent electronic cigarettes and alcohol being sold to underage people in the area.

Four premises were visited which consisted of staff at all stores visited correctly challenging for age identification.

Sergeant Dawn Boyd, South Lakes NPT said: “This was a successful operation in that all premises we visited correctly challenged our test purchaser for ID and when they failed to provide, the sale was refused.

“It’s great to see that the four sites all had these measures in place.

“Operations such as these serve as a reminder to all employees who sell electronic cigarettes or alcohol around the need for vigilance and to carefully consider the legal age before selling a product.

"We will continue with these types of operations throughout the year."
