Police arrested a man and a teenager in the Carlisle area yesterday afternoon (16 Dec) on suspicion of fraud following reports of fake £20 notes being used in the city.
A 46-year-old man and a 17-year-old – both from the Blackburn area - were arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation and handling stolen goods after police received reports of fake £20 notes being used to pay for goods and services in Carlisle, including to purchase a PlayStation console.
The pair remain in police custody this morning.
Inspector Andy Leather of Carlisle Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Cumbria Police takes reports of people seeking to defraud Cumbrian businesses seriously.
“Upon receiving the reports from our contacts in the local business community, we were able to act quickly and make arrests.
“We would encourage anyone with information or suspicions regarding fake money being used to report immediately on 999 so swift action can be taken.”
