Two people have been charged with theft after reports of shoplifting  at two retail premises in Penrith on 1 July.

A man and a woman were detained at the scene by Eden Neighbourhood Policing officers shortly after police received the report.

Heather Rae, aged 46, of Durranhill Road, Carlisle and Martin Bainbridge , aged 42, of Margaret Creighton Gardens, Carlisle have been charged with theft.

Both are due to appear before Carlisle Magistrates Court on 4 August 2025.

The arrest and charges were made during Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week – a week of action aimed at raising awareness of ASB and the issues it can bring to communities.
