The M6 motorway has now reopened in both directions following a sudden death on the motorway which occurred on the northbound carriageway this morning (12 Nov).

Emergency services were called after a tipper truck collided with the central reservation on the M6 between junctions 42 and 43.

The driver of the tipper truck – a man in his 60s – was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorway was closed in both directions for a time – with the southbound closed to allow air ambulance access.

The southbound reopened at around 1.30pm, with the northbound reopening at around 2.45pm.

Cumbria Police would like to thank drivers for their patience during the road closures.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to contact them.
