Investigations remain ongoing following the report of a racially aggravated assault that took place on 26 March in the area of Lismore Place, Carlisle.
Officers are aware of speculation regarding the nature of this incident and concerns within the community. At this stage, we would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident.
Enquiries currently indicate that the incident stemmed from a disagreement between class peers, during a football match at break time, which has subsequently escalated.
A male youth was arrested the following day in connection with this incident. He remains released on bail.
Officers continue to provide support to everyone involved.
Neighbourhood policing officers have been engaging with community stakeholders to support the wider community as the investigation continue.
Investigating officers would politely remind the public that this a live investigation, and respectfully ask that people refrain from speculation. Cumbria Police will provide updates as they become available.
