
A jury has today (Dec 23) found a woman guilty of two counts of section 18 grievous bodily Harm with intent following an incident at a property in Carlisle.
Jacqueline Mounsey, 53, of Whernside, Carlisle was found guilty following the trial at Carlisle Crown Court.
The incident occurred in June this year against a man and a child.
Mousey will be sentenced on 7 February 2025.
Detective Constable Louise Telford from Cumberland CID was the investigating officer alongside senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Matthew Belshaw.
Speaking after the verdict he said: “The victims in this incident suffered life threatening stab wounds to the neck, which could have resulted in the loss of life.
“In an attempt to shift blame Mounsey also caused injury to herself, and manipulated the child to also lay blame elsewhere, only days later did Mousey admit to detective’s she had inflicted the wounds to herself and the victims.
“I would like to acknowledge the victims in this case in what was a distressing incident. This also had a significant impact on the close knit local community of Whernside.
“I would like to thank the members of the jury, this was a difficult incident which resulted in a child suffering a life-threatening injury, you have sat and listened carefully to the evidence presented and returned a guilty verdict.
“I must also take this opportunity to thank and praise the dedicated team of officers, specifically DC Louise Telford and staff from Cumbria Constabulary, children services and those who supported the child, courts and the experts who have worked to establish the facts of the incident and a true account of events. They have shown great skill and professionalism throughout.”
