A woman who was subject of a Community Protection warning (CPW) last summer and a Community Behaviour Order (CBO), has been jailed for breaching the order in place against her.
Claire Sproat, aged 44 of Shaddongate, Carlisle, was jailed for six weeks yesterday (3 June) after she appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court.
Sproat was given a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order on 20 December 2024.
She breached the order on 7 May 2025 after she was witnessed consuming alcohol which she was prohibited from doing as part of the order.
The conditions of the order were:
- Not to be in possession of any unsealed vessel containing alcohol in any public place, except inside a licensed premises.
- Not to enter any premises part of the Carlisle Shopwatch/Retailers against crime scheme
Community Beat Officer PC Beal from Carlisle Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Sproat was well aware of the conditions of the CBO and has showed a clear disregard by consuming alcohol in a public place which we know caused issues for local landlords, business owners, residents and visitors in the town centre last summer.
“The sentence handed to Sproat demonstrates how effective these orders can be, and that those found to be in breach, will be arrested and put before the courts.
“We would encourage members of the public to contact us if someone with a criminal behaviour order breaches their terms. We also ask for anyone who has information about anti-social behaviour and criminality to contact us.”
Operation Enhance is funded after Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner secured an additional £1m of extra funding from the Government’s Hotspot Response Fund to target anti-social behaviour (ASB) and serious violence in hotspot areas across the county.
There are increased patrols in Carlisle City Centre area as part of Operation Enhance.
